Abstract

|
Authors experienced the first family of giant platelet syndrome with thrombocytopenia
in Korea.467-year-old male patient who was admitted due to diabetes mellitus without
bleeding tendency showed a profound decrease in platelet count (28,000/ul) with Coulter
Counter S-Plus N and the manual counts were slightly higher(52,000/ul).
Many giant platelets were observed in peripheral blood smear and patient's platelet
function tests and electron-microscopic platelet morphology showed no remarkable
abnormalities. In family study patient's two sons of third wife also had same
phonomena without bleeding tendency.
